Gail loves working with glass because it comes to life with one of nature’s own elements – light. Her work can be seen in commercial buildings, as well as private homes throughout the Big Bear Valley, Lake Arrowhead and Apple Valley. She credits her love of glass art to her son, Matt, who taught the craft to Gail in his home studio in LaVerne prior to moving to Big Bear Lake.Stained glass is a centuries-old craft and Gail enjoys the fact that the tools she uses, with only slight updating for modern use, are the same types of tools used for centuries. Her home studio in Moonridge is full of windows and faces the National Forest, which she says provides plenty of inspiration. She produces only one-of-a-kind commissioned works of glass art for new construction, home remodeling and handles repairs for nearly all the property management businesses in the Valley. Gail’s training has also included restoration of stained glass, a very specialized aspect of the craft that appeals to very few glass artists because of the time-consuming work and study required to know how age, weather and gravity affect lead and glass. Gail says that she loves restoration because, “I like the fact that because I was there and knew what to do, the stained glass will last another 100 years. Restoration work is 90% heart and 10% profit – you have to have the heart for it.” Gail’s work has appeared on the cover of Big Bear Magazine and featured in American Bungalow magazine.
