With a passion for painting and a love of nature, artist Doreen Abegg has found the scenery in Southern California the perfect inspiration for her artwork! A native Californian, she was born and raised in Long Beach. She and her husband reside at their main residence located a mile from the ocean in Huntington Beach. They also enjoy spending time with their family in a quaint rustic cabin with a spectacular view of Big Bear Lake.
She creates her colorful paintings in oil and prefers to paint her landscapes “plein air “ style on location directly from nature. Her expressive brushstrokes and liberal use of rich color work together in harmony to create her unique interpretation of each location she paints. Her work seems to capture the essence of nature and has a warmth of spirit that pleases the eye. “When I began painting outdoors”, explains this award winning artist, “I discovered new challenges and a heightened sense of excitement about my work. The variety of subject matter in nature is endless, the climate and atmospheric effects here in California are very conducive to plein air painting. Color fascinates me the most. I am able to interpret my feelings for the landscape in a variety of media, but find oils are the most direct and expressive. I love the feel of the brush on canvas!”
She received her art training at California State University at Long Beach, Art Center, Laguna Beach School of Art and Design, and various specialized classes and workshops. Her work has been exhibited in several galleries and art shows throughout the last fifteen years in Southern California and continues to be enthusiastically received by art critics and art collectors.
